Scan a product for allergens

A clear answer, on three levels

✅

Suitable

None of your allergens were found in the ingredients.

⚠️

Possible traces

“May contain” or “traces of” warnings: depending on your setting, they’re flagged or simply noted.

⛔

Avoid

The allergen is in the ingredients: it’s highlighted so you see it straight away.

What scanning does for you

  • The 14 major allergens (gluten, milk, eggs, peanut, tree nuts, soya, sesame, fish, crustaceans, molluscs, celery, mustard, lupin, sulphites) and any allergies you add yourself.
  • The whole family at once: with several profiles, one switch checks the product for everyone, one line per person.
  • Traces tolerated or not, set allergy by allergy.
  • Alternative products suggested when a product isn’t suitable.
  • No barcode? Take a photo of the ingredients list (with a free account).
  • Safe products list, sorted by aisle, with an alert if any of them is recalled.

Where do the ingredients come from?

From the collaborative database Open Food Facts, fed by millions of consumers. It’s very comprehensive but may be incomplete or out of date for some products: always read the label, especially for a severe allergy. If a result looks wrong, there’s a button to report it to us.

Frequently asked questions

Is the allergen scanning app free?

Yes, scanning and the verdict are free, unlimited, ad-free and require no sign-up.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. askadèle opens in your browser and installs on the home screen of both iPhone and Android, without going through an app store.

What if the product isn’t found?

Photograph the ingredients list (with a free account): askadèle reads it and gives its verdict. You can also report the missing product.

Can you rely entirely on the scan?

Scanning is an aid, not a guarantee: data may be incomplete and recipes can change. Always re-read the label on the product you buy, especially if the allergy is severe.

Are my allergies sent when I scan?

No. Only the barcode is sent to look up the product; the comparison with your allergies happens on your phone.
