Product recalls: be warned in time
Every week in France, products are recalled, often because an allergen isn’t listed on the label (milk, gluten, tree nuts, sesame…). askadèle checks the products you buy and lets you know if they’re recalled.

How it works
- askadèle checks RappelConso, the French government’s official product recall website.
- It compares recalls published over the last 18 months with the barcodes of the products you’ve scanned and those on your safe products list.
- The check runs on its own, at most twice a day, when you open the app.
- If there’s a recall: a red alert on the home screen, with the reason, the batches concerned, what to do and a link to the official notice. A recall linked to an allergen is flagged as such.
What should I do if a product is recalled?
Do not eat it
Even if it looks normal: an undeclared allergen can’t be seen.
Check the batch
Compare the batch number and date on the packaging with those on the recall notice.
Return it
The shop will refund it, usually even without a receipt. Follow the “what to do” instructions on the recall notice.
If you have a reaction after eating a recalled product, call 15 (French emergency medical service) or 112 and follow the allergic person’s emergency plan.
Why it matters for people with allergies
A product you’ve bought for years can change its recipe or factory, or be mislabelled on a single batch. “Undeclared allergen” recalls are among the most common. Being warned means not eating a product you thought was safe but no longer is.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to be notified of recalls?
No. Checking also works without an account, for products scanned on this phone. With a free account, the history of scanned products is kept for longer (7 days without an account), so more products are monitored.
Where does the information come from?
From RappelConso, the French public website for consumer product recalls (government open data).
Am I warned about every recalled product?
For products you have scanned with askadèle or added to your safe products list, and whose barcode appears in the recall notice. For other products, check rappel.conso.gouv.fr.
Does the askadèle newsletter cover recalls?
Yes: “The askadèle week”, every Monday, lists the week’s allergen-related recalls. Sign up with just an email address.
